I got an email from a rep at Urban Outfitters a few weeks ago saying she liked the blog and the links to UO. She added us to the mailing list and lo and behold, just yesterday I get a ginormo envelope from the UO headquarters.

The sweetest brochures/catalogs my eyes have seen. Anyone who's gone inside my room knows I'm a packrat when it comes to magazines. CD jackets. Catalogs. Handouts. Nice pretty paper. Paper with sexy fonts. Anything with typography. Cardstock paper.

It's Sunday and I'm bored. Editing more TWSS pictures and wanting to ransack my closet for stuff I won't wear anymore. I haven't gone shopping since the blazer, and I don't care to actually. Not until I acquire an actual job.

In the spirit of room cleaning, I found sketches from high school, back when I still had Boppo Clothing. I wanted to make this one Four Men into a shirt design but no one would buy it, I'm pretty sure. It was a scene from an old film with Gregory Peck. I had the screen paused because I was eating food and wanted to savour the flavor. But I was intrigued by the 4, and doodled them on a napkin. Scanned it into my computer and cleaned it up a little.

Then I found two variations of my friend Thira, whom I sketched sophomore year in our dorm room. It was probably a weeknight of the usual procrastination that took place. She asked me to sketch her (or maybe I told her I'd sketch her) and we wasted 20 fruitful minutes. She posed and I told her flat out that my doodles of people never end up looking like the actual people. They look like someone else. Maybe there's a girl who actually looks like this? Tell her to contact me and I can pretend I doodled these just for her.

This one I did while in Brazil.
I was waiting for my dad to finish up his conference and was stuck in the bus with a Brazilian fashion magazine. Everyone is so pretty there. They have a confidence and a prettiness that is unbeatable. It's just written on their face and in the way they walk. I wanted to spend more time there, just to sit and listen to them speak Portuguese. It sounds real pretty, like flowers are flowing from their mouths.

Now that I read the captions, I'm not sure if this was in Argentina or Brazil. It was one of the two. All a big mesh in my head. Good times and a follow up trip should be done.

Pretty much the best brunch-slash-latenight spot that's less than 3 blocks away from my apartment.

I was eating my unagi bowl and placed my bag on the ground, not really thinking much of it. Snapped this photo of a lady who conveniently had a bag clip to keep the bottom of her bag dirt-free.

Today, I go home and see my Lola with a 2-pack of the same bag clip the lady yesterday had. Magnificent!! She bought it at Ross for $4.

well, at the moment i am wearing sweats. probably not the answer you wanted. haha.

wow. there's no way to choose. there are SO many awesome fabrics out there that blow my mind. but i need twill and jersey to live.

i am very eclectic. i have many genres of clothing in my wardrobe ranging from punk rock to romantic to beach bum to city slicker. my favorite look at moment is a casual collared shirt with loose shorts, tennis shoes, bangles, and top that off with aviators.

love the music. her style is definitely unique. i respect her for stepping way outside the norm, but i wish i knew what she actually looked like behind all the costumes and heavy makeup.

An inspah board is always fun to have. It's something to look at, and can be messy. This particular one I have doesn't like my wall for some reason. It fell in the middle of the night and scared the shyitphukka outta me. There's a Juergen Teller shot for MJ, a black and white spread with photos of (really young, bowl-cut) Chloe from Anthem Mag, old shots of Edie Sedgwick from Interview, and a tiny blurb about some Dali painting.

I never actually look at these photos for anything in particular. I like seeing it out of the corner of my eye, a big mess. A conglomerate of images that just end up looking like one image if you look at your monitor and see it in the corner of your eye.

That's what a lot of things are. Many images separately that people pull together depending on the aesthetic aka "mood" desired and boom bang bing - it's a magazine page. Or a blog page. Or a poster. Or a pamphlet. Or a brochure.

That's when I should've clicked. But I didn't because I didn't want to be rude.

CV and me hit up the Fairfax HS swapmeet after perusing Space 1520's goodies. We didn't find much but it was still a feast for the eyes. I bought a snake bangle for my upper arm, only $7, and I'm sure the gold one Kate Hudson sported before was a couple times more expensive than mine. Snot like she needs to save the dinero.

We were nearing the end of the 'meet and stumbled upon this old man's table with a wooden tray full of what we found out were recycled bullet shells that he cast into mini pendants. Nothing on the table was more than $20. I bought an art nouveau design and an Alice in Wonderland pendant that he lasered himself into a molding from an old German children's book with an illustration from the story. CV on the other hand, got something a little bigger:

She's 86 and a friend of my grandma's from back in the day at USC. She's as feisty as ever, telling me that it's a sin for old ladies to not have a sense of style at their age. She's the most eloquent writer I know, and yes, we still communicate by old-fashioned, chipchuckin' snail mail aka handwritten letters. Back and forth, for the past 10 years. Now, it goes beyond thank-you-cards and christmas notes. It's more heartfelt. You lose your grandma and you realize you have to keep in touch and find out about the stories of their youth, when they were in their 20s and you were decades from existing.

Not so much crime, just frilly things and cosmic bings.

Her name is Christina and we survived Sociological Statistics together. ANOVA tables, two-tail hypothesis testing, and all the jazzy tunes and somber steps we endured for a cool 10 weeks during our last quarter at UCLA.

We brainstormed during our graduation ceremony and decided that we'd combine our noggins and get back to what makes us happy, which we'll try and showcase here on basquewaist. We like a lot of stuff. Shirts, shoes, fonts, delicious design and friends' clothes. This will be our open space to share what we find.
